Blown Tire Causes Fatal Crash With Semi-Truck
The number of fatal car accidents in the city of Omaha has remained fairly stable during the last three years. Research by City Data reveals that there were 18 fatal car accidents in the city in 2011 as opposed to 20 the year before. There were also an equal number of vehicles involved in these accidents.
Compared to national trends, this is a reasonably low rate. Still, roadway safety is a priority for Nebraskan law enforcement, and although fatal accidents are rare, collisions that cause injuries are much more common.

Man Dies in Crash on Interstate 80
1011 reports that a man died in a car crash on Interstate 80 in Nebraska. The victim was a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the accident, which happened between Grand Island and Alda late at night.
Nebraska State Patrol say that a blown tired caused a car travelling on the road to jump the median. The car hit the back of a semi-truck, and both vehicles rolled as a result.
One passenger died on the scene. Emergency workers transported the driver of the car and other passengers to a nearby hospital for treatment. The semi-truck driver was fortunate enough to avoid injuries in the accident.
A full investigation into the incident is underway. Police do not believe that alcohol played a role, and they believe that it was simply the burst tire that resulted in the vehicle crossing the median.
Nebraska Man Dies in Pickup Crash
Journal Star reports that a man from Nebraska died in a crash on a rural road in the south-central county of Harlan. The man was 32 years old and was driving a pickup at the time.
Police say the pickup went out of control on 721 Road shortly before 10 p.m., approximately 10 miles from Orleans. The truck rolled into a ditch, and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
The man died on the scene, and two of the passengers in the vehicle at the time went to a Holdrege hospital. The passengers sustained injuries in the crash, but they were not life threatening.
