Father Dies, Three Children Injured in Crash
Journal Star reports that a father died in a tragic car crash that left his three children with serious injuries. The accident happened on Nebraska 4 close to 624th Road. The car left the roadway, rolled several times and came to a stop in a field. Two people passing by the scene discovered the vehicle and notified police.
The father died at the scene. The force of the impact threw the children from the car. Emergency workers transported them by helicopter to a nearby hospital for treatment, but they have not yet released their medical conditions. A dog in the vehicle also suffered injuries and went to a local animal shelter for treatment.
A full investigation is still underway, but local police say they suspect the driver may have been under the influence of drugs. Police conducted a toxicology report but have not yet released the results.
This is the father’s second serious accident. In 2013, he crashed into another vehicle with two of his children unrestrained in the back. He pled guilty and received a $25 fine.

Interstate 80 at a Standstill after Multiple Crashes
10/11 reports that traffic on Nebraska Interstate 80 came to a standstill due to multiple crashes. The Nebraska Department of Roads claims that there were a number of accidents along the stretch of highway, possibly due to poor visibility and bad weather conditions.
A multi-car pileup closed all eastbound lanes of the I-80 at Utica. Drivers in the westbound lane at Milford said they were stuck in traffic for many hours.
Emergency workers scrambled to assist victims of the various crashes. Most were not major accidents, but they were enough to cause significant delays and closures across the state. Weather reports indicated that most of the roads were snow covered and hazardous to drive on at the time.
