Crash Alert: Man killed when truck rolls into him
SUTTON, NE – A man was struck and killed in Sutton by a pickup truck that went backward and rolled into him, Omaha.com reports.
The accident happened at about 11 a.m. Thursday in the parking lot of the Nolde Community Center.
Police say the victim, 65-year-old Duane McCauley of Sutton, had been helping a friend move and was standing between the pickup truck and a stock trailer.
According to investigators, he asked the friend to turn the truck’s key to determine whether its lights had power. The truck was in gear at the time and rolled backward, hitting McCauley. The truck was a half-ton 1991 Ford extended cab, said Sutton Police Chief Tracey Landenberger.
McCauley was pronounced dead at the scene. The Nebraska State Patrol arrived on the scene to reconstruct the accident.
