Crash Alert: Two pedestrians killed when struck by a truck
FRIEND, NE – Two pedestrians were killed in a crash involving a pickup truck in Friend on Thursday morning.
According to the Hastings Tribune, the crash occurred at 8:50 a.m. on Page Street. The victims were identified as 11-year-old Isaac Speece, of Friend, and his caregiver, 53-year-old Crystal Gerdes, of Milford. Speece was in a wheelchair at the time of the crash.
Reports say that Gerdes and Speece were crossing the street when a pickup truck driven by 76-year-old Thomas Schiffern of Friend, crossed from the northbound lane into the southbound one and hit them.
Speece was transported to Warren Memorial Hospital in Friend, where he later died. Gerdes was pronounced dead at the scene.
