Crash alert: Highway 15 reopens to 2 lanes of traffic
FAIRBURY, NE – News Channel Nebraska reports that a highway in Jefferson County has been reopened to traffic. Drivers were once again able to use two lanes of Highway 15 north of Fairbury starting at 9 a.m. Tuesday, weather permitting.
The roadway had been closed since June 8 due to construction work that includes removing two bridges and replacing them with box culverts, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation.
During the closure, drivers trying to get to Fairbury from the north had to use a detour that took them as much as 48 miles out of their way.
The project will continue until November, and motorists are advised to use caution when going through work zones.
