Crash alert: 8 injured when truck and van collide in Platte County
HUMPHREY, NE – A woman and eight children were hospitalized after a collision in Platte County Tuesday morning, according to News Channel Nebraska.
The accident occurred at about 11:30 a.m. at a highway intersection near the city of Humphrey. A semi tractor-trailer going west on Highway 91 crashed into a van heading north on Highway 81, the Nebraska State Patrol said.
The driver of the van, 35-year-old Amy Jackson of Columbus, and seven children were hospitalized with injuries that were not regarded as life-threatening. The most seriously injured was an eight-year-old who was transported to Bergan Mercy Medical Center in Omaha. The truck driver was not hurt.
The accident caused backups on Highway 91, where traffic was already being affected by ongoing construction work. The NSP is investigating the incident.
When semi trucks are involved in accidents with much smaller conventional vehicles, the size and weight of the trucks make for a collision that causes catastrophic injury, resulting in a lifetime of expensive therapy, as well as fatal injury and wrongful death.
