Crash alert: Fatal multi-vehicle accident on I-80
UTICA, NE – A crash on Interstate 80 claimed the life of a Dawson County man and shut down a stretch of the highway, according to the Lincoln Journal Star.
The chain-reaction accident involved two trucks and a car, and occurred Thursday afternoon just before 3 p.m. in Seward County near Utica.
The Nebraska State Patrol said it happened in the area of a construction zone, when one semitrailer rear-ended another as traffic was slowing down. The second truck then crashed into a Honda CRV.
The driver of one of the trucks, 59-year-old Michael Brunkhorst of Gothenburg, was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was injured.
The accident closed I-80 west in the area for about three hours.
