Crash alert: Man killed when pickup slams into retaining wall
HASTINGS, NE – One person was killed and two others injured in a crash involving a pickup truck in Hastings.
KSNB reported the accident happened at about 11:30 a.m. Thursday on the east side of Heartwell Park.
According to police, a woman was driving a Ford F-350 pickup truck at a high rate of speed on Cedar Avenue and failed to stop at a dead-end on Forest Boulevard. The vehicle continued into the park, where it slammed into a concrete retaining wall near a creek.
A passenger in the pickup was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. He was identified as 37-year-old Derek Lindstrom of Grand Island. The driver, a 28-year-old woman from Shelton, and another passenger, a 42-year-old man from Hastings, were hospitalized with injuries not regarded as life-threatening.
It is believed that speed and alcohol were contributing factors in the accident, according to police.
