Crash alert: 19-year-old woman killed in head-on collision on Highway 2
BERWYN, NE – A young woman was killed when her car collided with a truck in Custer County Friday night, KRVN Radio reports.
The accident was reported at 9:05 p.m. on Highway 2, about a mile west of the village of Berwyn. Investigators said a Pontiac Grand Prix was involved in a head-on collision with a Freightliner that was hauling vehicles. The driver of the Grand Prix was pronounced dead at the scene. She was identified as 19-year-old Erica C. Morgan of Gibbon, Nebraska.
The driver of the Freightliner, 33-year-old Eradzh Sattorov of New York, sustained minor injuries. He and a passenger in the truck were taken to the hospital.
The Nebraska State Patrol and the Custer County Sheriff’s Office were on the scene along with local first responders. The accident closed down Highway 2 from Broken Bow to Ansley for several hours until it was reopened at about 2 a.m. The NSP is investigating.
When trucks are involved in accidents with much smaller conventional vehicles, the size and weight of the trucks make for a collision that causes catastrophic injury, resulting in a lifetime of expensive therapy — or worse.
