Crash alert: Authorities identify drivers involved in wreck near Bennington
BENNINGTON, NE – Authorities in Douglas County have released additional information regarding a crash last week that left seven people injured.
This is an update to a previous story.
Six teenagers and one adult were hurt Thursday evening in an incident on State Street near Bennington. According to KETV, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has since identified both drivers. Investigators said 20-year-old Rachael Ackley was driving a Dodge Neon when the vehicle left the roadway. She overcorrected and crossed into oncoming traffic, colliding head-on with a Toyota Camry driven by 16-year-old Madeline Clark.
Clark and Ackley both became pinned in their vehicles, and were later taken to the hospital. Their injuries were not considered to be life-threatening.
Five passengers in the Dodge, all between ages 14 and 16, were also hospitalized; no further details have been released regarding their conditions. Clark was the only occupant of the Toyota. The sheriff’s office is continuing its investigation of the incident.
