Crash alert: Bicyclist struck by city bus in Lincoln
LINCOLN, NE – A bicyclist was hospitalized after being struck by a city public transit bus in Lincoln Wednesday.
According to KOLN, police said a Star Tran bus was making a left turn when it hit the male cyclist at the intersection of South 11th Street and G Street.
The bus driver said he did not see the bicyclist, who was using the designated bike lane at the time.
The bicyclist and a passenger on the bus were treated at Bryan Health and released. The driver was cited for failure to yield.
Statistics show that many serious bicycle accidents are caused by inattentive drivers and inexperienced motorists. Driver negligence can mean running a stop sign, driving drunk or under the influence of drugs, failure to yield to the bicyclist as required by law, or carelessly backing out of a driveway.
