Crash alert: Driver killed when car crashes in Banner County
HARRISBURG, NE – One person was killed and another was injured when their car crashed in Banner County Saturday night, KNEB reports.
Police and emergency crews responded to the scene at about 7:20 p.m. on Nebraska Highway 71, east of Harrisburg. According to the Nebraska State Patrol, 38-year-old Margaret Mathison was driving southbound when her vehicle crossed the median near mile marker 36. The car over-corrected and rolled over.
Mathison was pronounced dead at the scene, while a passenger, 31-year-old Jody Morse, was hospitalized. Both are from Idaho.
The crash caused the vehicle to catch fire, and local firefighters were dispatched to extinguish the blaze.
The accident remains under investigation.
