Crash alert: Driver killed when pickup goes off I-80 near Cozad
COZAD, NE – According to the Kearney Hub, authorities responded to a fatal pickup truck accident on Interstate 80 in Dawson County Thursday morning.
The crash on I-80 at mile marker 222 near Cozad was reported shortly before 8 a.m. Authorities believe it occurred early that morning.
The Nebraska State Patrol said a man driving a Dodge pickup westbound went off the road and into a ditch before the crashing into a concrete embankment.
The driver was killed in the accident. His identity has not yet been released. Authorities said a small dog in the pickup was injured and taken to a local veterinarian. The driver was not wearing a seat belt but was not ejected from the vehicle, investigators said.
The NSP was on the scene along with the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office and Cozad first responders.
