Crash alert: Rollover accident on I-80 near Sidney blamed on winds
SIDNEY, NE – Authorities say strong winds caused a rollover crash in western Nebraska Monday night. According to News Channel Nebraska, the accident happened on Interstate 80 near Exit 55, west of Sidney.
The driver of a vehicle had to overcorrect due to winds that were gusting up to 41 miles an hour at the time, the Nebraska State Patrol said. The vehicle rolled over into a highway median but the driver, who was wearing a seat belt, escaped with minor injuries.
I-80 west was reduced to one lane in the area while the scene was being cleared. The NSP and Nebraska Department of Transportation were on the scene along with local law enforcement and first responders.
