Crash alert: Suspect crashes in stolen Nebraska State Patrol cruiser
SIDNEY, NE – Two people are under arrest after authorities say one of them crashed a stolen Nebraska State Patrol cruiser, Fox Nebraska reports.
The incident began Sunday afternoon when the NSP stopped a vehicle east of Sidney that had been reported speeding on Interstate 80 and passing other vehicles on the shoulder of the highway.
As troopers tried to arrest the man and woman who were in the vehicle, one of them got into the state police cruiser and took off at high speed, nearly hitting one of the troopers.
Authorities say the suspect, 29-year-old Dontey Ollie of Newark, California, lost control of the vehicle while trying to exit I-80 as troopers were pursuing him. The vehicle rolled several times and Ollie was ejected, sustaining serious injuries.
The woman who had been with Ollie, 28-year-old Zakiya Rowe, was arrested on several charges including possession of a concealed weapon, driving under suspension, and possession of marijuana.
The Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
