Crash Alert: 2 dead in fiery single-vehicle crash in Lincoln
LINCOLN, NE – Two young men were killed overnight Thursday when their vehicle slammed into a tree on the city’s southeast side, the Lincoln Journal Star reports.
One of the victims has been identified Christian Miller, a junior at the University of Nebraska and a member of the Cornhuskers wrestling team. The other was Max Hughes, himself a former high school wrestler. Both were 21.
The collision occurred on 27th Street between Sewell Street and Park Avenue at about 2 a.m. Police officers were the first to arrive on the scene, but their efforts to pull the victims from the fiery wreck were unsuccessful. Neighbors attempted to douse the flames with garden houses and makeshift equipment, but the blaze could not be put out until firefighters arrived.
Unfortunately, they did not make it in time.
The police officers who attempted the rescue were treated for minor injuries.
