Crash Alert: Detached trailer causes multi-vehicle crash in Gretna
GRETNA, NE – Police are investigating a multi-vehicle collision that took place on I-80 Sunday when a trailer detached from the pickup truck that was towing it and spilled its cargo across the roadway.
ABC 8 reports that the incident occurred at eastbound mile marker 436 just after 5 a.m., when the maroon pickup blew a tire. This caused the trailer to come loose and dump 40 20-foot hollow metal tubes into traffic. Three vehicles behind the trailer crashed after swerving to avoid the debris. One of these vehicles was a tractor-trailer, which became overturned.
Fortunately, no one appears to have been injured in the crash.
The maroon truck fled the scene before authorities arrived. Police are searching for its driver, and investigations are ongoing.
