Crash alert: Wrongful death lawsuit filed over fatal crash in Omaha
OMAHA, NE – A wrongful death lawsuit has been filed over a fatal car crash in Omaha over two years ago, the Omaha World-Herald reports.
The family of Patty Leahy filed suit over an accident in which she was killed on October 8, 2018. Leahy’s car was struck in the area of Grover Street and 42nd Street by a vehicle driven by Tahjelle Jeffries. Authorities said Jeffries ran a red light just before the crash and was also driving without a license.
The lawsuit filed by the family raised the question of whether a pedestrian overpass near the intersection made it more difficult for Jeffries to see the stop light. The family wants changes to improve traffic safety in the area. The city of Omaha moved to dismiss the suit.
Jeffries was charged on several counts following the accident and was sentenced to 18 months in jail.
