Crash alert: 1 driver dead, 1 injured in car accident on I-80 in Omaha
OMAHA, NE – One driver was killed and another injured in a car accident on Interstate 80 in Omaha Tuesday afternoon, KETV reports.
Omaha police have identified the person killed as 57-year-old Diojenes Ortiz. Investigators said Ortiz was driving a Mazda Tribute on I-80 east at about 1 p.m. when the car struck a barrier near 84th Street.
The vehicle went airborne and landed on the 84th Street on-ramp, where it struck a Chevy truck that was on the ramp. Ortiz was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Chevy, 60-year-old Timothy F. Barry, was hospitalized with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
