Crash alert: Pickup driver dies after crashing into semi on Interstate 80
CHAPPELL, NE – The driver of a pickup truck was killed when his vehicle collided with a truck in Deuel County early Thursday morning, authorities said.
According to KNEB, the crash happened on Interstate 80 at mile marker 82 near Chappell. The Nebraska State Patrol said 45-year-old Kevin Thompson of Gering was driving a Ford F-150 pickup in the westbound lanes of I-80 at about 2:30 a.m. when he entered the eastbound lanes.
The pickup crashed into an oncoming semi, and Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene. The semi driver was not seriously hurt.
NSP investigators are trying to determine the cause of the wreck.
