Crash alert: Driver arrested after passenger killed in Omaha car crash
OMAHA, NE – A driver was arrested after a passenger in his car was killed in a car crash in Omaha early Friday morning, authorities said.
According to an Omaha Police Department news release, officers were dispatched to the scene in the area of 49th Street and Northwest Radial Highway at about 12:10 a.m. Investigators determined that 26-year-old Edward D. Purvis Jr. of Omaha was driving a BMW sedan east on NW Radial Highway when the car went off the road, hit a light pole and rolled over.
A passenger in the car, 23-year-old Lepree-Ava Carroll-Fansler of Papillion, was ejected from the vehicle. She was transported to University of Nebraska Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
Purvis was booked into the Douglas County Jail on suspicion of willful reckless driving and motor vehicle homicide. Police investigating the crash say alcohol and speed are being investigated as possible contributing factors.
