Crash alert: Mail carrier killed in collision with car in Stanton County
HOSKINS, NE – The Stanton County Sheriff’s Office said a mail carrier died after her pickup collided with a car Thursday afternoon.
According to News Channel Nebraska, the victim was identified as 57-year-old Francene Wolff. She was driving her pickup when the accident occurred at the intersection of Highway 35 and 846th Road near Hoskins at about 1:50 p.m.
Investigators said it appeared that Wolff failed to stop at a stop sign and entered the path of a car that was headed south on Highway 35. The vehicles collided and the impact caused the pickup to overturn. Wolff was ejected, and was pronounced dead at the scene. She was driving the pickup as a U.S. mail carrier while working a rural route, officials said.
The driver of the car, 21-year-old Devon Beckman, was taken to Faith Regional Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Highway 35 was shut down in both directions while the crash was being investigated and cleared.
