Crash alert: Man arrested on DUI charge following Grand Island motorcycle crash
GRAND ISLAND, NE – Police in Grand Island said a man was driving under the influence when he was involved in a motorcycle accident Saturday night, according to KHGI.
Officers who arrived at the intersection of 13th Street and Eddy Street at about 11:30 p.m. found 52-year-old Jimmy Helms of Grand Island on the ground along with the motorcycle.
Police said he showed signs of intoxication including watery eyes and slurred speech, and refused to perform field sobriety tests and a breath test. Helms was arrested on several charges, including fourth-offense DUI, driving with a revoked license and obstruction.
Authorities said he was not wearing a U.S. Department of Transportation-approved helmet.
Helms was hospitalized with minor injuries and then taken to the Hall County Jail.
