Crash alert: Motorcyclist killed in multi-vehicle accident on I-80 near Ashland
ASHLAND, NE – Authorities said a motorcyclist died after a multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 80 near Ashland Thursday morning.
According to WOWT, the victim was identified as 54-year-old Patrick Cunningham of South Bend. The Nebraska State Patrol said the accident happened as he was riding a motorcycle west on I-80 at about 6:40 a.m.
Investigators determined that a semi-truck with a tanker trailer hit another semi-tractor-trailer while trying to pass it on the interstate. The impact caused the second truck to hit a van, while the first truck over-corrected and struck Cunningham. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was reported to have been injured in the crash.
Interstate 80 westbound was closed down in the area of the crash for about six hours.
