Crash alert: Driver killed, 2 passengers hurt when car slams into pole in Omaha
OMAHA, NE – The Omaha Police Department said a single-vehicle accident Sunday night left the driver dead and two passengers injured.
Police said the driver of a Chevy Malibu was speeding eastbound on Ames Avenue shortly before 8 p.m. when the car swerved and crossed into the westbound lanes at the intersection with 31st Street. The vehicle went off the road and crashed into a traffic signal pole.
The driver was pronounced dead at Nebraska Medicine, and was identified as 24-year-old Akyma McWilliams of Omaha.
A front-seat passenger, 20-year-old Nairobi Ford, was treated for an amputated leg injury and chest lacerations, while a rear-seat passenger, 22-year-old Samuel Yata, was treated for leg lacerations.
The accident shut down Ames Avenue between 30th and 33rd Streets for about three hours.
