Crash alert: Man killed, woman injured when pickup truck crashes off I-480

OMAHA, NE – Police were at the scene of a fatal rollover crash at I-480 North and Martha Street in Omaha Sunday night.

The Omaha Police Department reported the accident involved a Chevy Silverado that was headed northbound when the accident occurred shortly after 10 p.m. Investigators determined that the vehicle went off the roadway, hit a tree and rolled.

The driver was declared dead at the scene, and was identified as 73-year-old Michael Childers.  His passenger, 69-year-old Linda Childers, was seriously injured and taken to Nebraska Medicine. Both were from Fort Calhoun, Nebraska.

Police do not believe that excessive speed or alcohol use were contributing factors in the wreck, which remains under investigation.
