Crash alert: Sentencing for driver involved in Sarpy County crash that killed motorcyclist
SARPY COUNTY, NE – The driver involved in a collision that killed a motorcyclist in Sarpy County was sentenced Thursday to two years probation, the Omaha World-Herald reports.
This is an update to a previous story.
75-year-old Susan Barrett of Bellevue was found guilty of misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide in the Sept. 21, 2020 incident.
Investigators said Barrett was driving a Mazda 3 when she made a left turn at the intersection of 132nd Street and Harrison Street and collided with a motorcycle heading east. Both drivers had green lights at the time but Barrett turned in front of the motorcycle, authorities said.
The motorcycle rider, 23-year-old Nicholas Scarpino-Vestal of La Vista, was thrown from the bike and pronounced dead later at an area hospital.
As part of the plea agreement for Barrett, an infraction of failure to yield was dropped.
