Crash alert: Driver charged in accident that killed Grand Island pedestrian
GRAND ISLAND, NE – A driver is facing criminal charges in connection with a crash that killed a pedestrian in Grand Island Saturday night, KSNB reports.
Police said 62-year-old Michelle Robinson of Grand Island was behind the wheel in the incident that occurred in the area of 7th Street and Eddy Street at 9:19 p.m.
According to police, Robinson was going north on Eddy Street when she struck a pedestrian in the roadway, and later said that she had hit the man unintentionally. The victim was pronounced dead after being taken to CHI Health St. Francis, and was identified as 45-year-old Antonio Nicholas Antonio of Grand Island.
Robinson showed signs of impairment after being evaluated by a drug recognition expert, authorities said. She was charged with felony motor vehicle homicide and misdemeanor driving under the influence, first offense.
