Crash alert: Driver dies after vehicle slams into tree on U.S. 30 in Dodge County
DODGE COUNTY, NE – Authorities say a driver died after his car crashed on U.S. 30 in Dodge County early Friday morning.
According to the Lincoln Journal-Star, the victim was identified as 40-year-old Nicholas Bechtel of Fremont. The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office said a vehicle had stalled on U.S. 30 with its flashers on at about 2:30 a.m. Bechtel was driving a Hyundai Accent westbound when he swerved to avoid the vehicle that had stalled. The Accent went into a ditch and then crashed into a tree.
Bechtel was pronounced dead at the scene. The sheriff’s office is investigating whether alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash. The victim was not wearing a seat belt at the time, investigators said.
