Crash alert: Driver dies after vehicles collide at intersection in Columbus
COLUMBUS, NE – One driver was killed and another hospitalized after their vehicles collided in Platte County Tuesday, News Channel Nebraska reports.
Columbus police responded to the scene in the area of East 38th Street and Lost Creek Parkway after the crash was reported at about 4 p.m. Investigators determined that the driver of a Lexus failed to yield the right of way to a Ford Explorer SUV going in the opposite direction. As the Lexus entered the intersection it was hit by the Explorer.
Rescue crews extricated the Lexus driver, 57-year-old Valentin Torres Martinez. Martinez was pronounced dead after being rushed to Columbus Community Hospital. A juvenile passenger was also taken to CCH but no information was released on the person’s condition.
The driver of the Ford was taken to the same hospital and was later released.
