Crash alert: Semi driver arrested following I-80 crash that killed father, son
LINCOLN, NE – A truck driver is facing charges in connection to a fatal crash on Interstate 80 Saturday.
According to WOWT, the multi-vehicle wreck occurred on I-80 east of the 27th Street Interchange in Lincoln at about 9:25 a.m. Investigators determined that 50-year-old Yorkwind Crawford was driving a semi when he rear-ended another vehicle, then continued west and hit several other passenger vehicles. A total of eight vehicles were involved in the wreck.
The two people killed in the crash were identified as 41-year-old Mark Kaipust and his 7-year-old son, both from La Vista. Five other people were hospitalized with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Crawford, a resident of North Miami Beach, Florida, is charged with two counts of motor vehicle homicide. He was booked into the Lancaster County Jail.
The NSP said it was believed that the crash was caused by speed and inattention.
