Crash alert: Driver who got out of his vehicle on Highway 77 in Lincoln fatally struck by car
LINCOLN, NE – Police said a man who got out of his car in west Lincoln Wednesday morning was struck and killed by another vehicle, WOWT reports.
The victim was identified as 56-year-old Timothy Beem. According to investigators, Beem pulled over to the shoulder in the southbound lanes of Highway 77 near Rosa Parks Way at about 7 a.m.
He exited his car to retrieve debris from the roadway and was hit by the other vehicle as he walked across the highway to return to his car, authorities said. Police officers gave Beem first aid but he was pronounced dead at the scene when rescue squads arrived.
Police interviewed the drivers of an Infiniti sedan and a Chevrolet Malibu that were both on Highway 77 in the area at the time of the crash.
An investigation is continuing into the cause of the crash.
