Crash alert: 2 passengers killed in crash on Highway 77 during storm
MEAD, NE – Two people died when their vehicle was involved in a crash during stormy weather in Saunders County Saturday morning, according to WOWT.
The two-vehicle collision occurred on Highway 77 near County Road P north of Mead at about 8:40 a.m. The Saunders County Sheriff’s Office said the driver of a Honda Accord was heading south and lost control of the vehicle due to ice and snow on the roadway. A northbound Ford F150 then hit the Honda on the passenger side.
Two passengers in the Honda were pronounced dead at the scene. They were identified by the sheriff’s office as 46-year-old Hector Martinez Mezquita and 26-year-old Francisco Alfaro.
Two people in the Ford pickup, the 37-year-old driver and a juvenile passenger, were seriously injured and taken to Creighton University Medical Center Bergan-Mercy for treatment. Investigators said everyone in both vehicles were wearing their seat belts.
