Crash alert: Elderly woman dies after car struck by speeding pickup in Omaha, police say
OMAHA, NE – Omaha police said a woman died after her car was struck by a speeding pickup truck Monday morning.
In a news release, police said officers responded to the crash scene at 144th Street and Eldorado Drive at about 10:49 a.m. Investigators determined that 55-year-old Gerard Skutnik of Omaha was driving a Toyota Tundra pickup at above the 45 mile an hour speed limit when he crashed into a Chevy Malibu that was stopped.
The Malibu then hit a stopped Chevy Equinox and a BMW 840i. The driver of the Malibu, 78-year-old Patricia I. Brinkman of Omaha, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Skutnik and the driver of the Equinox were hospitalized at CHI Bergan Mercy with what police called possible serious injuries. The driver of the BMW was not hurt.
The area was shut down for about four hours while police investigated the wreck.
