Crash alert: 2-vehicle accident in northeast Nebraska kills man, woman
CROFTON, NE – Authorities said a man and woman died after their car was involved in a collision with another vehicle in northeast Nebraska on Tuesday afternoon.
According to KCAU, the Cedar County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene in the area of Highway 81 and Highway 12 after the accident was reported shortly after noon.
Investigators determined that 74-year-old William Koontz was driving a Chevrolet Malibu eastbound and struck a Ford F-550 while it was approaching the junction of Highway 81 and Highway 12. Koontz was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, 71-year-old Anita Koontz, died after being taken to Avera Sacred Heart Hospital. Both were residents of Sioux City. Seat belts in the Malibu were not in use, the sheriff’s office said.
The driver of the Ford sustained minor injuries and was taken to the same hospital. That person was wearing seat belts.
The county sheriff’s office investigated the wreck with assistance from the Nebraska State Patrol and other agencies.
