Crash alert: 3 sent to hospital following ammonia leak at plant in Fremont
FREMONT, NE – An ammonia leak at a poultry plant in Fremont Saturday night sent three people to the hospital, KMTV reports.
The incident took place at Lincoln Premium Poultry, where the leak started at about 7:45 p.m. One person, a contractor, was taken by helicopter to an area hospital and was expected to recover. Two other people, a contractor and an employee of the plant, were checked out at the hospital and released.
A plant spokesperson said the ammonia leak resulted from a contractor working on a project. A hazmat team was called in to contain the leak and the facility was evacuated following the incident.
Officials temporarily suspended production at the plant, which provides chicken products to Costco.
