Crash alert: Crash involving stolen patrol unit in York County kills 2 people and K-9
YORK, NE – The York County Sheriff’s Office said a suspect driving a stolen patrol vehicle caused a deadly crash involving a train Tuesday night, according to NTV News.
The series of events began when a deputy tried to stop a Ford F-150 pickup truck that was being erratically in the area of Road H and Road 15 at about 11 p.m.
After a high-speed pursuit, the driver exited the pickup and had a brief encounter with deputies before seizing control of a marked patrol unit with a sheriff’s office K-9 inside.
The sheriff’s office said the pursuit resumed before the suspect eventually headed north on Delaware Avenue while approaching railroad tracks in the area. He then hit the back of a vehicle that was waiting for a train to pass, pushing the vehicle into the train.
The suspect, the driver of the second vehicle, and the K-9 were all killed in the crash. KSNB reports the driver of the second vehicle was Kyle Ediger, a teacher and boy’s basketball coach at Hampton Public schools.
The identity of the 47-year-old suspect was not immediately released. The wreck ignited a fire that was extinguished by York firefighters.
