Crash alert: 1 driver killed, 1 injured in wreck at 72nd and Military Avenue in Omaha
OMAHA, NE – Police said one driver was killed and another injured in a crash in Omaha on Sunday afternoon.
The Omaha Police Department said in a news release that officers were dispatched to the scene at 72nd Street and Military Avenue at about 1:05 p.m.
Investigators found that a 2006 Chevy Tahoe was going west on Military Avenue when the driver of a Nissan Altima sedan turned wide onto Military and failed to yield to the Chevy. The Tahoe hit the Nissan on the driver’s side and both vehicles then struck a Chevy Silverado that was stopped in the turn lane for 72nd Street.
The Nissan driver, 25-year-old Thomas Romello of Omaha, died after being taken to Nebraska Medicine. The driver of the Tahoe, 20-year-old Kendall Leavy of Omaha, was transported to CHI Health Immanuel with injuries that were not life-threatening. The driver and passenger in the Silverado were not injured.
Military Avenue westbound was shut down to traffic from 69th Street to 72nd Street for about three hours after the wreck.
