Crash alert: Driver cited following fatal crash on Highway 2 near Alliance
ALLIANCE, NE – The Nebraska State Patrol said a driver has been cited in connection with a fatal crash on Nebraska Highway 2 near Alliance on Sunday afternoon.
According to KLKN, the NSP said 36-year-old Ryan McElroy was driving a Chevrolet Camaro westbound at about 2:10 p.m. when his vehicle struck an eastbound Ford Escape driven by 22-year-old Blythe Boness of Alliance.
The Escape rolled from the impact and Boness was thrown from the vehicle. She was declared dead at the scene. Rescuers extricated McElroy from the Camaro and he was transported to Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
McElroy, a resident of Salina, Kansas, was cited on multiple counts, including suspicion of vehicular homicide, willful reckless driving, and DUI-3rd offense.
