Crash alert: Man fatally struck by pickup while trying to get cat off Highway 183
HOLDREGE, NE – Authorities say a man died after being hit by a pickup truck on a highway in Harlan County on Thursday night.
The Omaha World-Herald reports the accident occurred on U.S. Highway 183 near U.S. Highway 136 south of Holdrege, and was reported at about 9:20 p.m.
The victim was identified as 63-year-old Claude Taylor. Investigators with the Nebraska State Patrol said Taylor stopped his vehicle and walked into the southbound lane of Highway 183 to try and get a cat that was on the roadway. Taylor was then struck by the pickup, which was driven by 42-year-old Jeremy Poindexter of Tipp City, Ohio.
Taylor, a resident of Atlanta, Nebraska, was pronounced dead at the scene. The NSP is continuing its investigation into the crash.
