HOLDREGE, NE – According to KSNB News, one woman was injured after a crash involving an Amtrak train near Holdrege on Thursday.
Authorities say the collision took place around 11:30 a.m. at a rail crossing just east of Holdrege. 20-year-old Abigail Woosley was driving her vehicle north when she failed to yield, drove over the train tracks, and crashed into an Amtrak train that was heading east. The train struck the driver’s side front corner of Woosley’s vehicle, causing the car to rollover once before coming to a stop upside down.
The Amtrak train was carrying about 120 passengers at the time of the accident. None of the Amtrak passengers were injured, however, Woosley sustained neck injuries in the impact and was transported to Phelps Memorial Health Center for treatment.
Officials with the Phelps County Sheriff’s Office say Woosley was not wearing a seatbelt when the crash took place. An investigation is ongoing.
