Crash Alert: Woman who fatally hit motorcyclist waives preliminary hearing
OMAHA, NE – A woman who fatally collided with a motorcyclist has waived her preliminary hearing Tuesday, according to WOWT.
The tragic incident occurred at about 2:20 a.m. March 25 near 26th St and L Street. The initial police report stated that Lorena Lara-Diaz, 38, was attempting to turn left onto the US 75 on-ramp when she hit a Harley-Davidson operated by Gary Mangiameli, 45.
Rescue crews transported Mangiameli to an area hospital, where he died.
Authorities claim to have smelled alcohol on Lara-Diaz, who refused to take a field sobriety test. Prosecutors have charged her with manslaughter and refusal to submit to a sobriety test. She has been in jail since being taken into custody that morning, with bond set at $200,000.
