Crash Alert: 2 off-duty police officers hurt while helping out at crash in Nemaha
NEMAHA, NE – According to KETV, a driver struck and injured two off-duty Lincoln police officers helping out a crash scene near S 158th St and Saltillo Rd on Wednesday.
A silver Toyota Avalon driver was heading east on Satillo Rd when they ran a stop sign at S 158th St and collided with a northbound white GMC Sierra around 7:20 p.m.
The crash disabled the Toyota and it came to rest facing south in northbound 158th St.
Officers Kate Schwenke and Brent Lovett exited their vehicle to assist the Toyota driver. The driver of a red Chevrolet Bolt collided with the Toyota, which caused it to hit both officers and the Toyota driver.
Rescue crews transported both officers to an area hospital. The Toyota driver had non-life-threatening injuries and Officer Schwenke had an ankle injury. Officer Lovett sustained serious injuries to his head and abdomen. He is still in the hospital.
