Crash Alert: Officials ID victims of fatal crash on N River Dr
OMAHA, NE – According to WOWT, officials have released the identities of the two teens who died after crashing into a tree near 14700 N River Dr on Oct 8.
A 16-year-old was driving a Kia sedan north on N River Rd when they strayed off the road and collided with a tree around 8:52 a.m. The crash caused the vehicle to catch on fire.
Firefighters put out the fire and found five occupants inside the vehicle.
Rescue crews pronounced one 16-year-old dead at the scene and a 16-year-old died on the way to the hospital. They transported three juveniles to an area hospital with serious injuries.
Investigators determined the car was stolen from Omaha earlier that day.
Drugs, speed, alcohol, and reckless driving may have contributed to the crash.
Some of the juveniles from the wreck may be affiliated with a local gang that has been stealing Kia vehicles around Omaha.
The driver of the vehicle was under juvenile court supervision. They were arrested several times for theft, firearm possession, and felony flight from arrest.
