Crash Alert: Driver accused of fatal DUI crash in Jefferson appears in court
JEFFERSON, NE – The driver accused of causing a fatal DUI collision at N 168th St and Pawnee Rd on Sunday appeared in court on Tuesday, according to WOWT.
Joshua Kuhl, 35, was driving a 2023 Chevy Silverado north on N 168th St when he ran a stop sign and collided with a 2020 Subaru Outback around 1 a.m.
Rescue crews transported three people to an area hospital, where Gary Smith, 69, died. The other two people suffered severe injuries.
A Douglas County Sheriff’s deputy spoke with Kuhl and determined he was impaired after performing a field sobriety test. A preliminary breathalyzer test showed Kuhl’s BAC to be .192, over the legal limit of .08.
Deputies discovered that Kuhl had two prior DUI convictions after checking his record.
Kuhl appeared in court on Tuesday and was charged with one count of motor vehicle homicide (with a prior DUI) and two counts of DUI causing serious bodily injury.
His bond is set at $1,000,000. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 29.
