Crash Alert: Impaired driver fatally collides with another vehicle near Maplewood Hills
OMAHA, NE – According to WOWT, a suspected impaired driver who fatally collided with another vehicle near Maple St and Maplewood Blvd on Sept. 22, 2023, appeared in court Friday morning.
Michael Popp, 58, had drunk around eight 32-ounce mugs of beer when he got into his vehicle. He was driving west on Maple St with his headlights off when he collided with a car operated by Daniel Krzemien, 71, as Krzemien turned from eastbound Maple St onto Maplewood Blvd around 9 p.m.
Rescue crews transported Krzemien to an area hospital, where he died from his injuries on Nov. 11.
Authorities charged Popp with motor vehicle homicide-DUI.
Popp will have his preliminary hearing on Mar. 13. He is being held on a $100,000 bond.
