Crash Alert: Police pursuit ends in deadly crash near Hanscom Park
OMAHA, NE – One person is dead after a police chase ended in a wreck near I-480 SB and I-80 on March 3, according to WOWT.
David Kauai, 35, was driving a Nissan Titan that Omaha Police officers located after a shots-fired incident in Council Bluffs around 2:30 a.m.
Officers attempted to pull Kauai over, but he refused. He collided with guard rails at the I-80/I-480 split while eluding police. A female passenger was ejected from the pickup truck during the crash.
Rescue crews transported the victim to an area hospital, where she died.
Another female passenger was in the vehicle. She and Kauai did not suffer severe injuries in the collision.
Authorities took the female passenger and Kauai in for questioning. Kauai admitted to using cocaine before driving.
Police charge Kauai with motor vehicle homicide by way of willful reckless driving and fleeing to avoid arrest.
He will appear in district court for trial and could spend 15 years in jail if convicted.
