Crash Alert: Wrong-way driver fatally collides with another car on NE 2 near Syracuse
SYRACUSE, NE – A wrong-way driver fatally collided with another vehicle on Highway 2, just east of Syracuse, on Sunday, according to KOLN.
Michael Salvato, 24, was driving a Jeep SUV east in the westbound lanes when he collided with a Ford sedan driven by Ann Fields, 56, at around 3:30 a.m.
Following the initial collision, a multi-passenger bus traveling westbound collided with Fields’s sedan.
Rescue crews pronounced Fields deceased at the scene.
Officials said that while Salvato was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the occupants of the bus were not hurt.
The Otoe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident with assistance from the Nebraska State Patrol.
