Crash Alert: Suspected impaired driver involved in fatal 4-car crash near Edenton South
LINCOLN, NE – An alleged impaired driver was involved in a deadly four-car collision near South 84th Street and Old Cheney Road on Saturday, according to KOLN.
Authorities said the suspect, a 40-year-old Lincoln woman, was driving south on 84th Street near Lincoln Christian High School, in the city’s Edenton South neighborhood. At one point, her car crossed the median and collided head-on with a ride-share vehicle driven by fellow Lincoln resident Amare Biftu, 49, at around 3 p.m.
The force of the collision caused Biftu’s engine block to crash into another vehicle in the right northbound lane. Another car then slammed into Biftu’s vehicle.
Rescue crews pronounced Biftu dead at the scene. His passenger, as well as the driver and passenger from the vehicle that crossed the southbound lane, were all transported to area hospitals.
Authorities have not issued citations or made arrests, but a toxicology test was administered to the 40-year-old driver, and results were pending.
The Lincoln Police Department is investigating the incident.
