Crash Alert: Officials ID victim of fatal crash on I-80 near Greenwood.
GREENWOOD, NE – Officials have released the name of the man who died in a two-vehicle collision on I-80 between mile markers 419 and 420 on Sunday, according to WOWT.
Chester Heidel, 888, was driving a Ford Econoline van west in the eastbound lanes around 3:30 a.m. when he slammed into a semi-truck head-on.
Rescue crews pronounced Heidel dead at the scene and transported the semi-truck driver to an area hospital with minor injuries.
First responders shut down the eastbound lanes of I-80 for three hours to process the scene.
The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating the incident.
